These $68 Slingbacks Are Identical to Chanel’s Two-Toned Version
Over the years, I’ve amassed a fairly large collection of vintage and thrifted low-block heels. Mind you, I never really considered the shoe silhouette particularly high-style—they’re definitely dated, and a bit grandmotherly—but I like the slightly retro spin they give modern pieces like frayed jeans and high-waisted shorts, and they give me, at barely 5′ 3“, just enough of a boost without looking like I’m wearing “high heels.”
Which is why I completely flipped for Chanel‘s revamped version of the label’s classic Cinderella slipper when I saw it traipse down the Fall 2015 runway, and again when I spotted them during Fashion Month on the feet of every editor, blogger, and street-style star.
I wasn’t surprised Chanel’s prim shoe had become such a thing—it’s already been proven that heels have climbed so far in the past decade that there’s nowhere to go but down—and the style is quietly indicative of status without being covered in logos, but they were so massively in demand that they swiftly sold out everywhere.
Plus, they were more than I wanted to spend, given the fact that my style is too frenetic for me to comfortably invest in “forever” pieces, which is why I’m kiiiiind of loving a $68 version I spotted on Loéil, a fairly new site I’ve been obsessed with despite the fact that most of the merchandise is—how shall I say?—”designer inspired.”
I know, I know: knock-offs don’t always deserve to be endorsed, but I take solace in the fact that Balmain’s creative director, Olivier Rousteing, admitted he downright loves when retailers like Zara copy him, as it’s the mark of good work and a creative mind.
