Step aside Kim Kardashian: Taylor Swift is on her way to becoming the new reigning queen of Instagram.
It was revealed last week that Kim overtook Beyoncé as the most-followed person on the app, and now Tay’s tied for the top spot with 45.5 million followers. Earlier today, the “Blank Space” singer actually was ahead of the reality star, but Kim’s count has since moved from 45.4 to 45.5 million, putting them neck and neck.
It’s not particularly shocking we live in a world where the winner of seven Grammy Awards, 16 American Music Awards, 22 Billboard Music Awards, 11 Country Music Association Awards, and 25 Teen Choice Awards—just to name a few—is tied in popularity with a “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star, but it is wild to think about the sheer number of people tracking these girls’ every move (almost double the population of Australia, FYI.)

Swift posted a snap of herself modeling a sweater knitted by a fan on Monday that was wildly shared by fans and media, so that may have contributed to her newfound status as Instagram’s most-followed person.
Although Kim might have the whole sexy selfie thing down to a science, Tay has the power of her #girlsquad behind her, crazy-obsessed fans, and hundreds of epic cat photos, so it’s safe to say her account probably has more longevity, if less cleavage.
