Tracee Ellis Ross, daughter of Diana, is every bit as supreme as her mother. She’s had our hearts since she starred in Girlfriends, and our woman crush has only intensified with time—and now, with her star turn as Dr. Rainbow Johnson on Black-ish, the rest of the world is finally realizing how amazing Tracee is. And we say that it’s about damn time.
And really, there’s so much to admire. When you’re not laughing your head off at her impeccable comic timing, you’re admiring her incredible curls and makeup choices. How could she not be our Woman Crush Wednesday? So while we eagerly await the Fall premiere of Black-ish (one more week!), let’s take a stroll down memory lane and revisit Tracee’s boldest beauty looks.

Back in 1997, Tracee was best known as the host of Lifetime’s The Dish—and as Diana Ross’ gorgeous daughter. You can really see that the beauty apple didn’t fall very far from the tree!

At the 2002 Soul Train Awards, Tracee taught us a master class in how to make our eyes look bigger—lining her waterline with white to match the sclera of her eyes, curling her lashes and concentrating her upper eyeliner on the outer half of her eyelid. The amazing peach blush and nude lipstick don’t hurt, either.

This brick-red lipstick and spiky mascara is basically the look we want to wear for the entirety of Fall. And how amazing is her hair when it’s pulled back (but still worn curly)?

Tracee has always taken risks with her makeup. Pairing lavender eyeshadow with stark black liner and coral blush is a combination that we wouldn’t have thought of, but that she makes look totally fantastic.

With this voluminous waved hair and shimmery gold eyeshadow, we can’t help saying it: Tracee looks SO MUCH like her mother!

And here we have a lesson in how to rock intense eyeliner: Keep your lines sharp yet even and balance it out with dewy skin and slightly pink lips. Bonus points for the loose, shiny curl cloud.

We love the cool red lips and smokey eyes, but we’re REALLY into Tracee’s festive, curly updo.

Matte red lips, chic topknot: inspirational. Let’s also talk about how her eyebrows have been completely perfect since the beginning of time.

Tracee’s curls are glorious—and she’s always been very open about her journey to accept them. “Even though I grew up with the image of my mother wearing her hair that way, I hadn’t really seen it elsewhere, so it still has taken courage to wear my hair natural and not feel the pressure to straighten it. I’m loving the natural hair movement. It’s really encouraging and is expanding the definition of beauty.”

If you’ve been wondering whether or not Tracee looks amazing in bright purple lipstick, the answer is yes. Obviously.

Tracee started a campaign to inspire others to love (and accept) their natural hair: “I love my hair because it’s a reflection of her soul: dense, kinky, soft, textured, difficult, easy and fun.” So not only is she making us feel amazing about our lipstick choices, she’s also helping to save the world—one curl at a time. We love you, Tracee!
