Taylor Swift has gotten more than one shoutout from FLETCHER over the years, and when speaking with StyleCaster for our Exist issue, the “Undrunk” singer revealed the Eras Tour was the best concert she’s ever been to.
“I do not understand how someone can sing for that long, look that beautiful, sound that good, it feels like she’s a robot, but she’s a real person and, yeah, it’s pretty iconic,” she says. “It was one of the best shows, production, everything.” When our senior video editor Allie chimed in with the fact that she saw Swift in the rain during one of the Boston shows, Fletcher replied, “That’s a movie. Yeah, spiritual. That’s church.”
FLETCHER also weighed in on the big pop stars of the moment. “I’m obsessed with Chappell Roan,” she says. “She came out on tour with me two years ago and watching her take off has been the coolest thing ever. I’m obsessed with Reneé [Rapp], she’s an icon. Hi, Queen, I love you.”
In the Exist issue cover story, FLETCHER reveals that she’d scored an invitation to Swift’s birthday in 2019. “I asked her what she was drinking, and she said it was an old fashioned,” she explains. “She said, ‘It’s a man’s drink,’” to which Fletcher replied, “Well, you’re the fucking man.” This interaction inspired Fletcher’s lyrics “sipped her like an old fashioned” in “girls girls girls”—a standalone single ahead of her debut album, Girl of My Dreams, in 2022.
