Warning: Spoilers ahead for Bridgerton season 3. She’s been the antagonist on Bridgerton from seasons one to three, but just how well does Jessica Madsen know Lady Whistledown? Better than most, we assumed. And we were right.
In part two of season three, her character Cressida Cowper poses as Lady Whistledown and blackmails Penelope Featherington into revealing her gossip column alter ego. Poor Cressida. We learn that she acts out against Pen and the others, not necessarily because she’s a bad person, but because she’s undervalued at home by her parents.

When they arrange her marriage to one of her father’s elderly friends (gross), she has no option but to buy her own dowry to escape. With Queen Charlotte offering a handsome £5,000 reward for the identity of Lady Whistledown, Cressida threatens to expose Pen in exchange for the money.
“When Colin comes to talk to her, you can see that moment where you think that he’s caught her,” Madsen says. “She’s leaning in, believing him, and understanding what he’s saying. And then it’s that moment where it switches and she’s like, ‘I don’t have what you have.'”
Naturally, when Madsen dropped by the StyleCaster studios, we challenged her to pick the real Lady Whistledown quotes from fake ones (by real people). We were super impressed at how well she did.
