white vans damn daniel

By now, either you’re sick of hearing about white Vans, or you’ve started to capitulate to the pop culture machine and desperately want a pair. No idea what we’re talking about? Congrats, you probably have a very full life. To fill you in, we’re referring to “Damn, Daniel,” a seemingly innocuous inside joke between two buddies that seems to have transfixed the world with its juvenile repetition and went maddeningly viral over the weekend.

Teenager Joshua Holz decided to film his buddy Daniel a bunch of times and, while panning down to his sneakers—occasionally white Vans—says things like, “Damn, Daniel!” and “back at it again with the white Vans!”

Yep, that’s all.  As for why people are in hysterics, we’re not exactly sure. Maybe because Daniel is cute and looks like a quintessential Vine boy. Maybe because he, like every other teenager in America, is into skatewear, with his Huf sweatshirt and his Vans. Maybe because we don’t know how to process anything that’s not a 30-second video shot by a teenager on social media. Who knows!

So far, the video has been retweeted 290,000 times, and bids on eBay for dirty white Vans that claim to belong to Daniel are skyrocketing, with one pair inexplicably going as high as $300,000. Don’t even get us started.

Even trendsetting deity Kanye West appeared to have gotten in on the action, as he was spotted roaming around Calabasas Monday wearing a pair of white Vans that he “customized” with markers.

To be fair, Kanye didn’t bite Daniel’s style exactly, given his own affinity for the skate sneakers, often posting photos of himself rocking Old Skools, and in his just-released track “No More Parties in LA,” he raps, “some days I’m in my Yeezys, some days I’m in my Vans.”
